Since forming GKAI in 1995, Martin Haslett Grounds has gained recognition as one of the most talented and knowledgable resort architects in Indonesia.
Having studied and graduated Architecture at the University of Western Australia, Martin went on to work for Warwick Bloomfield Architects in Perth.
Then moving to London in 1975, he worked for Mathews Ryan and Partners until 1978. After this time he returned to Perth to start his own practice - Martin Grounds Architects. Later partnering with Jack Kent on the Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay project, GKA and GKAI were born.
Always an adventurous spirit, Martin's hobbies include snorkelling, scuba diving and yachting. And recently proving he is as determined as it was some 25 years ago when he landed on Bali's shores, Martin competed in last year's prestigious Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.
The backbone of the office, Vera takes care of everything and everyone.
With GKAI since the beginning in 1995, Vera handles admin, finance, accounts, suppliers and HR, all the while magically making sure everything runs smoothly and happily in the GKAI studio.
The culinary queen of Indonesian food, in her spare time Vera enjoys cooking up local delights - her Manadonese food cannot be rivalled!
Graduating from the University of Atma Jaya Jogjakarta, Agus joined the team at GKAI in 1996, having previously worked for Multi Karya Consultant in Jogyjakarta, and then PT. Duta Graha Indah in Jakarta.
As a Project Architect and hailing from Tabanan, Bali, Agus has an in-depth knowledge of Balinese construction and is reponsible for running large-scale projects in the GKAI studio.
A detailed but zen man, in his time out Agus enjoys meditation, as well as tinkering with auto mechanics and other such machinery that no-one else understands.
From Singaraja, Bali, Budi has great awareness and understanding of Balinese and Hindu traditions. Since joining us in 2002 his pool of knowledge has been invaluable for cultural cross-over into GKAI architecture.
A graduate of The National Institute of Technology in Malang, prior to GKAI, Budi had worked for PT. Arthesis in Malang and PT. Garis Bali in Denpasar.
A secret geek at heart, Budi's passions in life include IT and electronics.
Graduating from The National Institute of Technology in Malang, Ratna first joined GKAI in 2005 for six years. Her quest to work on high rise buildings then saw her move to Jakarta and work for Airmas Asri Architects for a period.
Rejoining us in 2011, Ratna has brought her invaluable talents as a Project Architect and on-site co-ordination skills back to the team.
Known for her love of the great outdoors, some of Miss Setyaningsih's enviable passtime activities include hiking, fishing, snorkeling, camping, photography and globe-trotting.
Joining GKAI in early 2014, Aura had previously worked for Center for Universal Design & Difablity, Jogjakarta; Arkitekton Lima, Jakarta and Gary Fell Architects Bureau, Bali.
A graduate of Universitas Gadjah Mada in Jogjakarta, Aura has a meticulous eye for design and detail, and working on projects from beginning to end, creates incredible construction detailing.
Using her talents outside of the office, Aura turns her detailed eye to photography in her spare time.
AGUSTINUS ARIADIATMOKO PRAMUWIDYASA
Upon graduating with a BA in Architecture from Parahyangan Catholic University in Bandung, Ari (originally from historical Semarang) went on to cut his teeth in the working world of architecture at Joost van Grieken Studio and then Artlenta Indonesia.
Joining the super GKAI team this year, Ari is seen developing building designs through drawing and 3D modelling, helping to take projects forward to the next level.
A music lover and film photography enthusiast, Ari is also a pretty impressive free diver making Indonesia’s spectacular oceans his favorite hang-out when he’s not above ground.
SYLVIA AGUSTINE MAHARANI
With a passion for interiors, Sylvia otherwise known as Pipi, joined GKAI earlier this year after working for design practices DesaDisain in Bandung and Artalenta in Bali.
A graduate of Parahyangan Catholic University in Bandung, Pipi’s talent for interiors have come shining through in the studio with her aptitude for space planning and solving interior issues on projects.
Fuelling her love of architecture and design, Pipi enjoys travelling around Indonesia for cultural and historical inspiration. She’s also a big fan of snorkeling, so just as well she lives on a beautiful island surrounded by snorkel-friendly waters!
KETUT SATRIA ARJANA
Satria tells us that he was known as Mr. Happy in his last job and it has to be said, he is consistently very happy. Everyone’s friend, Satria graduated from Duta Wacana Christian University, after which he worked for AREA Design in Bali.
Originally from Singaraja, Satria has good local construction detailing knowledge. Since joining us recently, he has put these skills to great use on projects as well as continuing to develop his skills in other areas of architecture.
A lover of football and hiking, multi-talented Satria is also a singer in his spare time. So when he isn’t at the GKAI studio, he shares those impressive vocal chords at weddings and other events.
FURRY INDRA SWARI
With her beaming smile ready to welcome all guests, Indra has been the GKAI receptionist since 2001.
Having graduated from STP Satya Widya Surabaya, Indra went on to work for Bali Adventure Tours before joining us as the front line and friendly face of our office.
Outside of the GKAI doors, Indra enjoys cycling and travelling. She dreams of visiting Europe one day, but is settling for a trip to Japan next year where she'll presumably also be able to cycle.
Holding the key to GKAI facts and figures, our Accountant Irna controls the purse strings of the company, which means everyone is nice to her.
Originally from the stunning island of Flores, Irna graduated from STIESIA Surabaya before working at PT. Bahtera Mandiri Artakelola in Jakarta for a number of years.
In between her role at GKAI and taking care of her gorgeous little girl at home, Irna's time is pretty stretched, but she does tell us that once upon a time she enjoyed travelling.
